CCS/TMS320F28069M: error connecting to target with XDS100v2 usb emulator

Part Number: TMS320F28069M

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

After our last message conversation the problem did not ocuur for a certain period of time. But for one week it occurs again. I have read the document you advised.

When I check the TRSTn pin voltage it should be low during normal operation mode. It should be high at debugging configuration.

But in my case, during my debug attempts I cannot connect to the board if it is low, I can connect if it is high. Normally it should be high while connecting.

So the problem is TRSTn pin voltage. But why does it change during different attempts? There is a 2.2kohm pull down resistor at that pin as TI recommends in the hardware design guide

  • Just to confirm, if the 2.2kOhm PD is removed, does the emulation connection stabilize?  Or do you have to externally drive TRSTn high to get the emulator to connect.  In either case, it sounds like the output buffer of the emulator pod may damaged if it cannot keep this pin high on its own.

  • I have increased the pull down value up to 33kohm but not removed. Anyway increasing it to 33k did not solve the problem, but I will also try to make it unconnected.
  • Yes, as you have said removing the pulldown resistor works fine. But I also tried this with different emulators. Are the outputs of multiple emulators damaged?
  • That doesn't seem likely either that multiple emulator PODs would be damaged, but if removing the 2.2kOhm makes things work it would certainly point to a pin driver issue. I'm also un-aware of any way to change the drive strength on the XDS100v2, so this is a bit puzzling.

Could you confirm that the 2.2kOhm is correct? I've ran into situations that the wrong component gets placed, so for example if this was really 220 Ohm it would be a much stronger PD but visually might look the same as a 2.2k.

Would it be possible to try and different host PC, or different USB port on the same host PC?

  • Wanted to check back in to see if there was further assistance needed from TI. I'm going to mark as TI thinks resolved, but feel free to post back and I'll look into this more.

    Best,
