TMS320F28379D: TMS320F28379D - Remote firmware upgrade over USB

Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE, TM4C1294NCPDT

Hello,

Our design is based around TMS320F28379D device , we have gone through the BOOT ROM specific document for different boot mode options.

I would like to check with you is there any options available to upgrade the frimware image over remote interface like ( UART or USB) does the boot ROM has any support for this ??

Regads

  • Hi,

We do support Serial and USB flash programming support.

    Please refer

    Application note:

    API and Examples:

    • Serial and USB flash programmer examples: C2000Ware_<version>\utilities\flash_programmers

    Thanks, Katta

  • Hi ,

Looks like this scheme requires some kind of manual intervention like setting the GPIO pins to change the boot mode to USB to update the firmware and then we need to bring it back to normal flash boot mode.

  • Hi,

Please refer "Device Boot Modes" section in F2837x TRM.

  • HI ,

I have gone through the document, my clarification here is I am using internal flash for code storage and set the boot pins accordingly to boot from internal flash.

In case if I want to upgrade the firmware through USB, I need to change the boot pins to USB boot mode (manually in hardware by strapping the GPIO pins from flash mode to USB boot mode) and this will download the updated version of my code + flash kernel from the host PC and update the latest firmware, once the firmware upgrade is done I need to manually set the GPIO pins to flash boot mode.

My question here is can we upgrade the flash memory with this manual strapping of the GPIO pins , we need to update the firmware on the go with the host PC/Laptop , we can’t afford to take the board out from the mechanical assembly.

Please advise me if I missed anything to read in the boot loader document

  • My question here is can we upgrade the flash memory without the manual strapping of the GPIO pins (to set the boot modes) , we need to update the firmware on the go with the host PC/Laptop , we can’t afford to take the board out from the mechanical assembly.

  • Hi Antony,

As per my understanding you want to switch between Flash boot and USB boot without changing GPIO pins.

Can you refer the section "2.1 Custom Boot Pin Selection" at http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spracn1/spracn1.pdf

Let us know if this method works for you. Though the document is written for F28004x, the philosophy is similar.

    Thanks, Katta

  • Hi ,

Thanks for sharing this app note .

Look like for all the C2000 family of MCU Delfino , we need to use this scheme in order to avoid manually toggling the boot switch.

In our existing project we have used Tiva series of MCU (TM4C1294NCPDT ) that has boot loader resides in the flash location that gives the flexibility for the user for remote firmware upgrade , we just thought the same for the C2000 Delfino Series of MCU.

    Regards
