In former devices, ADC module control register 2 (ADCCTL2) has an ADCNONOVERLAP bit.Overlap of sample and conversion can be enabled or not.

Ok, got it. The older device ADCs have an issue in that the sampling and conversion phases between two SOCs can interfere and cause conversion issues. The ADCNONOVERLAP bit would give a control to the user so sampling and conversion phases between SOCs will not overlap. The F280049 ADC is designed differently and does not have this overlap issue.
