Hello,

I want to program a Microcontroller to connect two devices communicating with Ethernet and CAN respectively.

I would like to program the Microcontroller with Simulink.

In my understanding the C2000-Series is programmable with Simulink but none of those MCUs has both an Ethernet and CAN interface.

Does someone know which MCU I could use or how I can proceed?

Hi Alex,

One of our newer devices has Ethernet and CAN FD (TMS320F2838x). If your application can use CAN FD then this would be a great option.

Hi Marlyn,

thank you very much for your recommendation. I will have to check if my application can use CAN FD.

I also found out that the RM48x-Series is also programmable with Simulink: https://de.mathworks.com/products/connections/product_detail/ti-hercules-microcontrollers.html . True?

And for example the RM48L952 has Ethernet and CAN interface. Maybe this would also be a good option for me?

Hello Alex,

You are right. RM48 supports MII/RMII and MDIO interfaces, and has 3 CAN controllers.

You can program RM4X / RM5x / TMS570 from MathWorks tools. To do this, you design your algorithm in MATLAB and Simulink, generate C code of the algorithm with Embedded Coder, and import the C code into CCS to deploy to the chip.

There is a Processor-in-the-Loop solution that was written by an engineer @ TI: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/46332-ti-hercules-pil-target-for-rm48. However, that engineer has moved to a different team at TI, so it is not currently updated or supported by anyone and I'm not sure if it still works or not.
