Hi,
my customer wonder if we have the data of communication speed vs. cable length for FSI.
Hi Howard,
We do not currently have quantitative data available to show for this. We've performed tests in a low noise lab environment without any additional buffers/transceivers and can achieve ~10-18cm with simple jumper wires. However when integrating into a real system that's prone to noise, extra care and testing should be carried out to ensure that signal integrity is maintained and communications are robust during all run-time scenarios.
If communicating over a long distance we highly recommend using differential transceivers, as they significantly help with rejecting noise.
Digital isolators or buffers should enable you to transmit/receive further as well, but not nearly as far compared to differential transceivers. Using a slower communication speed would help as well, as you probably know already.
Best,
Kevin
