Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

I already discussed about the JTAG issue and its resolved but I would like to know whether GPIO 42, GPIO 43 could be disconnected from the FT2232HQ-REEL (Pg: 11/30). Can we use XDS100 Ver 1 with TMS320F28379D?

Thank you.

Regards,

Rajesh BN.

  • Rajesh,

Could you provide some more context with your question. Is there a particular board you are working with?

    Regards,

    PEter

  • Hi Peter,

I am designing a customized TMS320F28379D board taking LAUNCHXL-F28379D as reference. I'm keeping a JTAG connector along with the onboard XDS100 Ver 2 as it is used on the Launchpad. But I saw other boards (F28335) where no GPIO pins were connected to FT2232.

So, I'd like to discard those GPIO pins from the FT2232. But I'd like to hear an advise from you before doing that.

    Regards,

    Rajesh.

  • Rejesh,

I think it is OK to remove these 2 GPIOs from the FTDI chip to use as GPIOs. I am confirming this with other engineers right now, should be getting back to you shortly,

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Rajesh,

I got it confirmed. Yes you can re-purpose those GPIOs, they are just used to provide a way for the customer to communicate to a COM port on their PC while developing. You may want to look into revising the circuit after the Isolation, it may be good to add a pull up or something, but  I imagine the FTDI guide would tell you that. Also please note that it very rarely makes sense for a customer to embed an emulator in their design. It takes up board space and adds to component cost. I typically recommend them to add a basic JTAG header as we do on the VDBs and then buy an external XDS110 or XDS200.

    Regards,

    Peter
