MSP430I2041: Code won't run at startup

Part Number: MSP430I2041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET,

I have a board design which uses an MSP430i2041 as it's microcontroller. The code on the board runs perfectly fine in debug mode and as well when just flashing the device. The code only won't start up when the MSP-FET is disconnected. I've tried running the same code on a different board and it runs fine, even with the MSP-FET disconnected. This leads me to believe it's an issue with the hardware and not with the code. After some more testing I figured out that the code does start up except when the !RST/NMI/SBWDIO pin is disconnected from the MSP-FET. Therefore I thought there must be something wrong with the reset behaviour on that pin, but I scoped the pin on both the non-working board as on the working board and there was no difference in behaviour (which makes sense since the pullup resistor and pull down capacitor have the same values on both boards). The only Obvious difference between the boards is that they use a different package variant of the MSP430i2041, but I can't see how that would make a difference. Is there anyone who has encountered this issue or who could help me in the right direction? If more information or clarification is needed also please let me know.

with kind regards,

Erik Leijen
