MSP430F67791A: How to measure total and individual harmonics

Part Number: MSP430F67791A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-THDREADING

Hello ,

We are using MSP430F67791A , we want to find individual and Total harmonics of each phase of voltage and current.

We have gone through TIDM Threading and sample software also but they are based on IAR , we want it in ccs.

After studying in detail of TIDM Threading we still not figure out how to calculate harmonics in CCS.

Please provide equation /method / sample code for individual harmonics up to 32nd order.

Thanks,

Saurabh Patel

  • Hello,

There should be equations for how the total harmonics are calculated in the TIDM-THDREADING user's guide. Please note that this design does not measure individual harmonics. Measuring individual harmonics on the MSP430 in addition to energy measurement may not be feasible. In that case, you may want to consider sending the raw ADC samples from the MSP430 to a more powerful host MCU or processor. EMDC supports CCS but does not support measuring THD or individual harmonics. That is something you would need to implement.

If you'd like to measure harmonics up to 32 and assuming worst case nominal AC frequency of 60 Hz, you'd need a minimum ADC sampling frequency of 2x32x60 = 3.84kHz.

  • Can you please show us the equation for measuring individual harmonics by taking raw adc samples ?

  • The "equation" is the algorithm for a FFT.
