MSP-FET: MSP_FET430UIF driver issue

Part Number: MSP-FET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Hello,

I am using "MSP430 USB-debug-interface MSP-FET430UIF" debugger to debug code with MSP430 microcontroller.

Recently I am facing error while debugging code(not being able to debug code).

I have observed that the device divers is showing" TUSB3410 Device", which earlier was "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC".

I tried another debugger which is still showing "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC" in device manager and was able to debug code properly.

I downloaded this drivers:

prod_no: ti_msp430driver_setup_1.0.1.1-windows.zip
ref_url:

Please let me know reason behind driver change and how to revert back to  "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC" or how to resolve the issue.

Thank You in advnace.

  • Hi NILESH,

You means that the MSP-FET430UIF can not debug code after update the driver?

Do you test in another PC or another USB port?

It is very strange, I can test in my side.

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • HI Johnson,

    Thank you for your reply.

You means that the MSP-FET430UIF can not debug code after update the driver?

    >> Yes that`s true, I am not being able to debug code and driver name itself has changed to "TUSB3410 Device", which earlier was "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC".

And I don`t even know how it got changed.

Do you test in another PC or another USB port?

    >>  Yes I tried and issue remains same.

  • Hi NILESH,

I find the link of driver is maintenance, I will test in my side when the link ia available.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Johnson,

    ti_msp430driver_setup_1.0.1.1-windows.rar

I have attached drivers here with this reply.

    Thank you for your response.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Nilesh Patel.

  • Hi Nilesh,

I did some test in my side, the result show that  MSP-FET430UIF are normal, be able to debug code via CCS.

And I install this driver you provide, the name in device manager is also MSP-FET430UIF - CDC.

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

As I have already mentioned in the question that I do have another debugger and it is also working fine and still showing MSP-FET430UIF - CDC in this device manager with same PC.

The issue is for one debugger which is showing "TUSB3410 Device" in device manager,  anyhow this debugger`s driver have gotten changed and I am looking for way to revert back its driver to "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC", which I believe that it will solve my issue and I will be able to debug again with same debugger.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Nilesh Patel.

  • Hi Johnson,

Good Day. I would like to follow up about the query of our customer. Thank you very much.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

Do you/your customer still need our support for this case?

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

Good Day. Yes, please see below the another query of the customer. He already posted his query but he do not received any response since 5 days ago. Thank you very much.

"As I have already mentioned in the question that I do have another debugger and it is also working fine and still showing MSP-FET430UIF - CDC in this device manager with same PC."

"The issue is for one debugger which is showing "TUSB3410 Device" in device manager,  anyhow this debugger`s driver have gotten changed and I am looking for way to revert back its driver to "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC", which I believe that it will solve my issue and I will be able to debug again with same debugger."

  • Hi Ray,

    Got it.

I tried this driver in my PC and don't reproduce this issue, the name always show MSP-FET430UIF - CDC even if I installed the driver provided by the customer.

Therefore, I suggest that customers can delete the corresponding driver first, and then plug in the MSP-FET430UIF, the PC will automatically search for the appropriate driver file.

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

I tried Uninstalling drivers and install it from device manager and still it was showing "TUSB3410 Device".

I tried deleting the driver files "TUSB3410 Device"  by following its path in C drive but my PC won`t allow it and tells me that only installer can change/modify or delete it , hence I don`t know which installer it is talking about.

Another important point which needs attention is when I connect both debugger at same time in same PC,

    1. One Debugger is showing "MSP-FET430UIF - CDC" and that debugger is working fine.

    2. Another debugger shows "TUSB3410 Device" which is not working.

Note: I did not tried debugging the code with both debugger attached with PC at same time otherwise IDE will get confuse.

So my point is if there is driver issue from PC then, Shouldn`t both debugger be showing "TUSB3410 Device"?? How come one is fetching right drivers and another one is not?

Is there any chance of hardware issue in not working debugger?  and If it is then why it is showing this drivers as TUSB3410?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Nilesh Patel.

  • Hi Nilesh,

Got your point, according your test, it seems that the bad MSP-FET430UIF's firmware have some issue.

Have you updated or modified this firmware before?

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

No, I did not update anything.

It was working fine on one day evening and next morning I encountered this error.

  • Hi Nilesh,

Got it, I think this MSP-FET430UIF maybe broke if other FET430UIF can work normal in same PC.

And this issue should cause by FET430UIF firmware.

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hi Johnson,

I think this MSP-FET430UIF maybe broke. >> Green LED is working fine of debugger so I am assuming the debugger is not broken.

Are you familiar with MSP430 Flasher software? Is this software capable of changing firmware of debugger itself?, and If yes then where can I get the firmware of debugger to change.

Note: I am not familiar with this software.

    With Best Regards,

    Nilesh.

  • Hi Nilesh,

Yes, agree. The hardware of MSP-FET430UIF should normal, but the firmware should broke.

And this is a older debugger, thus don't have more material here, maybe you can try to re-programming this debugger refer this document:
    https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau647o/slau647o.pdf

    Thanks!

    Best Regards

    Johnson

  • Hello Johnson,

Surely I will look into the document, once I get time to do so.

I will try to change firmware and if that fails, I will consider that debugger is broken and move on from topic.

For Now I will resolve this case.

Thank you & Ray, for all the support.

    With Best Regards,

    Nilesh.
