MSP430F2012: Programming Interface

Part Number: MSP430F2012
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, MSP-TS430PW14

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with MSP430F2012. Please see below for his query. Thank you very much.

MSP430F2012TRSAR part needs to be programmed, but the programming interface seems to be for a 14-pin (TSSOP ZIF). Customer need interface to be a 16-pin QFN.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

Thanks for your post. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by "programming interface". Do you know if the customer is using a target socket board or a custom board? To me, it sounds like they are trying to use the target socket board with a package that won't fit in the socket. Our programming tools like the MSP-FET support all MSP430 devices regardless of the package, assuming the JTAG pins are accessible and the JTAG interface circuitry matches what is recommended.

  • Hi James,

Good Day. Please see below the response of our customer to your reply. Thank you very much.

By programming interface I mean the Target Development Board that would mate to the 16 position  QFN.

We recently purchased the MSP-TS430PW14 Target Development Board and The MSP MCU Programmer and Debugger.

All I want to know is if there is a Target Development Board that mates to the 16 position QFN.

    Best Regards,

    Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

Thanks for the additional details. I did not find a target board for the F2012 that supports the QFN package. If they are in development stage, they can still use the MSP-TS430PW14 and the TSSOP package for development. If they are in production programming stage, they may want to consider designing their own target board using a socket for the 16-pin QFN package. We may offer a target board with a socket that can be used with this package, but the connections wouldn't support this specific device.
