Ran the updater as directed. Produced error message "An error occurred and this application must close." Apparently AFTER it erased the EEPROM. Now it won't recognize a chip in the socket.
How do I get my launchpad working again?

I have no idea. At only $5 for a new one there doesn't seem to be any reason to waste a whole lot of time on it. I bought several new ones they fix several problems and come with better chips.
