MSP430F5658: Desperately need a sample.

Part Number: MSP430F5658
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5659

Hi

I know this sounds like it should be a customer support request, but I tried that and they can't help.

The situation is that I designed a product using the MSP430F5659ipz that has 512k flash. The proctuct is in production, but lead time on the 5659 is 52 weeks. The company I did the work for can purchase the smaller memory part MSP430F5658IPZ with a lead time of 6 weeks. The program takes about 370K flash, which should fit in the 5658 part that has 384k flash.

However the company is reluctant to place a $25k order that in non cancel non return, without being 100% sure the new part will work. That is why I'm trying to get a couple of samples. TI and all the distributors have no stock.

Therefore I was hoping that maybe someone here had a part or two?

Thanks

Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

Unfortunately, we don't have any stock for sample. One thing you can try for confidence is to program the current MSP430F5659 part as a MSP430F5658. To do this, you would change your CCS Project target from the device you have to the device you want to move to. CCS will give you a warning that you can dismiss, but it will still work since the F5659 and the F5658 parts are in the same sub-family. As a result, the memory would be restricted to the levels of the F5658.

You can do the same for any device in the datasheet (refer to "Table 6-1. Device Comparison"), so any one of those could be sampled.

Other than that, the only path would be customer service. We can also try to find a similar part that has stock, but that's it.

    Thanks,

  • Urica,

Thank you, I did do that already and the program compiled after changing the memory allocation configuration in the compiler. I then downloaded the program into a F5659 and it ran. I told the buyer that I was 99.99% sure it will work, but they were still reluctant to place a large $ order that is NCNR. Thanks again for your help.
