Is there a way to convert from I2C to MDIO, or at least drive MDIO commands from a fixed list (with no I2C input). This tool from TI appears to be very popular: USB-2-MDIO, https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snlu197/snlu197.pdf?ts=1634575566594

Can you tell me if TI has some kind of MDIO library to use with MSP430 microcontrollers? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Eric,

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with MDIO and am not aware of any type of library or reference design outside of the USB-2-MDIO tool. You may find it helpful to modify one of our Housekeeping functions and add MDIO support rather than creating something from the ground up.

James, If I understand that USB 2 MDIO tool correctly, it uses MSP430 to bridge between USB from your PC, to Read/Write PHY registers over MDIO interface. The source SW from that tool would seem to have the necessary libraries of some sort to bridge from USB, right? Is there someone who is familiar with that tool that may be able to offer advice on how to extract the MDIO aspects?

Yes, I would assume that is correct. The USB-2-MDIO comes with binaries, but obviously the customer could not modify those. I have checked with our Ethernet team to see if the source code is available or not.
