MSP-430 GANG Programmer

Hi All,

I need some deep technical support for MSP-430 Gang Programmer.

We currently program MSP-430 F2013 devices in two stage using IAR + MS430FET, one of which is loaded for storing some calibration data into info memory and the other is loaded for the end user. The two program cant not be loaded together as the flash space is not enough for such an application. One of the important point here is we need to retain data that we store at info memory in first stage while the msp-430 is being programmed in the second stage. Another important thing is we also need to store some program code into info memory in the second stage of programming. We can do this using IAR with the option Retain Unchanged Memory.

Recently, we decided to move MSP-430 Gang since the IAR and MSP-430 FET is not for mass production purpose, and have bought one.

After we examined the product, we realized that the GANG does not have such an option( Retain Unchanged Memory)?

Can we do what we have doing with IAR + MS430FET by MSP430GANG?

We are in urgent need of finding a solution to this problem.

Hello Koksal,

you can use GANG430 for programming in two stages, as you have described. For automating of this process please refer to usage examples in installation folder. You can select between C, C++, Visual Basic, LabView..

For the saving of your calibration data please refer to GANG430.DLL function GangProgramTarget(). This function doesnt erase target (device) memory and program only one of 8 connected to the GANG430 targets.

GangProgramTarget did not work for us because it does not allow us to perform multiple writes, it has no erase function, and the second issue, we could not read the TargetSFR in a continuous manner, when we attemp to read the target SFR, the MCU restarts and cause unstable reading from ADC SFR. Actually, what we try to perform is to read ADC SFR and to store this SFR value to information memory to be used as an calibration point.

Hi Koksal,

functionality you use on FET430UIF is not supported by the GANG430. I think you have three possibilities:

Change your calibration process so the GANG430 can be used:
1. Write calibration program into target and start it.
2. The cal.program does calibration and write date to INFO memory.
3. Erase main memory and write final application to target.
Keep using the FET430UIF as you are used before.
Check 3rd party programming tools may fit better for you.
