MSP430F5338: ADC12 inputs A8 and A9 on MSP430F5437A compared to MSP430F5338

At the moment I am comparing MSP430F5437A to MSP430F5338 (as a replacement). I encountered a difference in ADC12. MSP430F5437A seems to have analog input channels A8 and A9, whereas MSP430F5338 seems to not have these analog inputs according to the datasheet. Looking at user guide slau208q, section 28.3.5, the description for ADC12INCHx bits does not mention A8/A9 as a valid input channel option. The user guide is shared for both controllers, so am I missing something?

Is there really a difference between these two controllers?
Should using A8/A9 never have worked on the MSP430F5437A?

Hi Michael,

The MSP430F5437A and MSP430F5338 are coming from two different families.

According to the device datasheet, the MSP430F5437A has the A8 and A9.

If you are looking for a replacement for the MSP430F5338, you can take a look on these devices.

MSP430F533x, MSP430F563x, MSP430F643x, MSP430F663x

it is actually the other way round. We use 5437A at the moment and are looking for an available alternative MSP430. 5338 could fit, but the afore mentioned difference regarding ADC12 caught my attention. The data sheets differ regarding A8/A9, but the user guide is common für for devices and seems to be incorrect, as it does not menttion these two channels at all.

Hi Michael,

Ok, take the datasheet as the reference for each device.

For a replacement for MSP430F5437A, you can look at these devices.

MSP430F5418/9, MSP430543x

Hi Cash Hao,

well, that means that there are in fact no suitable and available alternatives. 5418/9A are too small (too little flash), and the only suitable alternative 5438A is also out of stock.
