MSP-EXP430G2ET: Question Asking

Part Number: MSP-EXP430G2ET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IO-EXPANDER-EVM, , MSP-FET

Hi Team,

My customer has a question about MSP-EXP430G2.

He would like to know what's the difference between MSP-EXP430G2 and MSP-EXP430G2ET.

He want to use MSP-EXP430G2ET to control IO-Expander-EVM. but the  IO-Expander-EVM EVM user guide is using MSP-EXP430G2 (Slvua59a)not  MSP-EXP430G2ET.

Is it ok to control IO-Expander-EVM by using MSP-EXP430G2ET?

  • The ET is a new version with an improved MSP-FET. It should work the same as the old board as far as the MCU is concerned.

  • Hi Keith,

But the ET pin define is not the same as the old board, like interface port.

So my customer want me to check if the new version board could be used.

  • The MCU pins are connected to the exact same pins of the boosterpack header:

  • Hi Jason,

The MSP-EXP430G2ET is the new version of that older MSP-EXP430G2, like Keith said. You should be able to control the I/O Expander EVM with the new MSP-EXP430G2ET board. The pins might look different, but it was mostly name changes and updates. If you look at the physical boards and their silkscreen they are labeled the same. The only difference is they labeled the XIN and XOUT on the older board, but those pins can still perform the same function, they were just renamed to what users used those pins for more.

The new board also has a newer ez-FET which is why one of the jumper blocks is different.

    Regards,

    Luke
