MSP430FR6043: Best practice with LCD power consumption

Hi

We are using a LCD in combination with the MSP430.

A question popped up the other day about what the best practice would be in order to reduce the power consumption:

Either we can have logic to store the current state of the display and only partially update if we see that a change is necessary or we can alway write to all register all the time.

The question to you guys is:

Does it cost more to write the same state of the LCD to the register compared to having a code based LCD state checker?

I know this isn't a trivial question but maybe there is an approximate answer?

    Hi Peter,

    No matter you display the old data or the new data, LCD is always working. When the LCD refreshes the data, it has almost no effect on the power consumption of the LCD display. If you want to reduce the power consumption, you need to find a way to keep the chip in low-power mode as much as possible.
