LP-MSP430FR2476: Boosterpack for CAN interface

I am looking for a booster pack to use for a CAN interface between the MSP430 and EK-TM4C1294XL. How do I go about finding one?

Maybe this belongs in the TM4C forum? Maybe the boosterpack plugs into the EK-TM4C1294 and the MSP430 eval board works in this setup.

The Edde flex CAN boosterpack is not available on amazon, so what other options are there?

Looks like this board will work as a CAN transciever board for the EK-TM4C1294XL

Hi Priya,

Sorry for the delay.

For the EK-TM4C1294XL board, this device has a CAN controller integrated so all it needs is a CAN transceiver to convert the CAN signals into the correct electrical domain. This can be done with the SN65HVD230 3V supplied board you show here, or through a similar 5V 8-pin CAN transceiver like TCAN1042 or TCAN1044. All three of these devices are supported by the TCAN1042EVM. This board can be connected to the CAN0Tx and CAN0Rx signals from the controller board to interface with a CAN bus on the EVM's CANH and CANL lines.

The MSP430 launchpad does not have a CAN controller, so you will need an external one to interface with a CAN bus. I would recommend using the TCAN4550 booster pack for a CAN FD controller and transceiver combination that will also fit the boosterpack pinout. This device can send/receive CAN data through its SPI port to the MSP430 and do all of the interfacing with the CAN bus on its own.

The TCAN4550 booster pack is not available. What can I use for CAN controller/transceiver for the MSP430?

Priya,

You could use the TCAN4550EVM, there are 36 in stock at Digikey right now, and then use the SPI from MSP430 to the TCAN4550-Q1 to configure and control the device.
