MSP430F5419A: Using ADC in a 1V8 system

Part Number: MSP430F5419A

According to the Datasheet AVcc needs to be 2.2V or more. Also AVcc and DVcc needs to be at same potential. We have a system voltage of 1V8. MSP430 claims to be able to work at 1V8. Is there any way of getting ADC to work in 1V8 system?

  • Hi Jonas

MSP430F5419A can work on 1.8V on Vcc power supply. But accroding to "8.36 12-Bit ADC, Power Supply and Input Range Conditions" on DS. Avcc power on ADC should be 2.2-3.6V. it means ADC can't be garanteed on 1.8V. even ADC works on 1.8V, the accuracy (LSB) can't be garanteed.

  • Thanks for the reply. So ADC is functional even with 1V8 but resolution is not 12-bits. Do you have any knowledge of how much resolution is affected? We probably could go with 10 bit resolution and 2 LSB presenting nonsensible data would be OK.

Does this same apply to all MS430s? I assume that it does but if there is some models capable of 1V8 ADC functionality we could use that instead.
