Hi fellows.

I´m designing a water flow meter, but I´ve some troubles defining de VOLUME SCALE FACTOR (meter constant).

How can I calculate it using my meter's dimensions?

For example, supposing a meter with a distance between tranducters of 2.5'' and a pipe width of 1/2''.

I'ld appreciate your help.

Hi Felipe,

Customers typically set the initial meter constant with another reference meter in series. There are several factors that can effect the translation of the ultrasonic time of flight such as the angle, the length of the tube, the surface over which the volume is flowing, etc.

Thanks for your answer. I've been trying to calculate this meter constant by equation, that´s the point of my question. But I really appreciate your answer.

I decided to calculate it in a manual way, changing it until it fits with my reference meter.

I just have another question for you, if you don´t mind:

When I calculate my meter constant manually, I just modify it repetitively until it fits with the reference meter value. My question is, What is the unit of my measured flow rate when I use an estimated meter constant with a reference meter giving flow rate values in liters per second? is it in the same units or is it different?
