MSP430F6746: COMP_B and REF usage

Part Number: MSP430F6746

Hi,

I have a question from my customer who is evaluating MSP430F6746.
He wants to know reference clock generation with REFON=0.
According to user's guide Table 26-1, Low-power bandgap reference is enabled if module requests it even REFON is not '1'.

Suppose COMP_B is used with REFON = 0, the module (COMP_B) requests Low-power bandgap when CBCTRL1.CBON is set to '1'?
COMP_B can be used without an issue even REFON=0?

Thanks and regards,
Koichiro Tashiro

  • Hello,

You need to ensure the COMP_B requests the reference to work in this manner. The reference will not be requested solely by CBCTRL1.CBON bit. You would also need to set the appropriate CBREFL and CBRS bits in the CBCTL2 register to request the bandgap reference voltage.

You can of course still use the COMP_B peripheral without the shared reference at all, by utilizing the derive reference from VCC and internal resistor ladder feature of COMP_B.

  • Hi Jace,
