MSP430F5358: IC Not Detecting

Hi TI Team,
Greetings of the Day!

We are using the MSP430F5358IPZ LQFP-100 package for our design. We have assembled 10 boards in that we observed that in 3/10 boards BMC IC it is not detecting(Using Uniflash/CCS) and we are unable to flash.

We found that the impedance is Ok as per expectation. Also once powered up we are able to get expected voltages at the power pins.
The reset line is also observed high.

We are using the SBW interface for flashing. Kindly, help us on debugging this issue.

Hello Arijeet,

When using SBW, a common problem is the capacitor on the RST pin is too large. The recommended range is 1n - 2.2nf. There should also be a 47K pull up resistor on the RST pin to the VDD. Another problem is the length of the programming cable between the programmer and MSP430 (this is including the length of SBW traces from the programming connector to the MSP430) is too long. Recommended length < 20cm.

What are you using for a programmer? Is the target board self powered or does the programmer provide power during programming?

Hi Dennis,
We are using a 4.7K pull-up. The capacitor is 1000pF.

Programming cable length is <20cm (</nearly 12-15cm ).
We have tried using MSPFET & MSP430 launchpad EVBs both.

Dennis, using the same setup & same cable assy. we are able to flash other MSP430 which got detected.
