EVM430-FR6047: Smart metering applications

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EVM430-FR6043

Hello Team,

TI has two kits on sale: EVM430-FR6043 and EVM430-FR6047. They allow to evaluate two members of the same family. In other words kits are very similar but I found the important difference: EVM430-FR6043 has the conditioning circuit (level shifter, switch, op amp) on the sensor's input while EVM430-FR6047 doesn't. Kindly let me know the root purpose of this circuit.

Regards,

Renan

  • Hi Renan

For  EVM430-FR6043 is used for gas meter and EVM430-FR6047 used for water meter. For the gas meter use case the signal out put from the USS transducer is very small that is 10x more times smaller than the signal from water meter(This is why we need OPA external to amplify the signal) and sensitive with temperature. After test we found the using one channel with analog switch have better performance when temperature changes than using two channels that is why we use the analog switch. For the level shifter is used when using high voltage like 5v to be power for transducer to generate more strange signal the can be more easy to sample.
