EZ430-F2013: Data acquisition

Part Number: EZ430-F2013
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA333, MSP430F2013, USB2ANY

Hi Team,

We would like to ask your help regarding our customer's inquiry below.

I am using the EZ430f2013 development USB(which is quite old already). I am trying to search for examples where I can extract data from the board to the computer directly when connected via USB(I have tried to divide my problem into parts where I tried to find how to first enable SPI and then transfer data but I couldn't find anything beyond initialization of SPI)(I am fairly new in programming and debugging MCUs so please excuse me if I am jumping on a stupid question). I was able to initialize ADC (SD16) but to confirm if it is really working I have to see data and that is the problem here(lack of knowledge). I hope anyone can provide some sort of guidance with this. I am trying to convert the amplified output from INA333 from a bridge circuit.

Anyway here is the process that i have in my mind for what i want to do with EZ430F2013, 1) Take analog voltage from INA333 to any input of MSp430f2013 target board>2) setup SD16 for conversion>3) get converted data from adc to computer via usb interface(this is the part which I don't know how to do it)

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi,

I think you should use UART to transmit the data from F2013 to the computer. Here is the schematic, I can find from the user guide. Please double check.

  • Hi Eason,

    According to our customer,

Thank you for the schematics but the problem here is of realizing this in lab. I have not able to find any code or example of direct implementation of this with ez430f2013. Since Msp430f2013 has independent ability for usi interface but to develop a project i have to get data out of ez430(I am trying to make a standalone system(which means I will hook up output of INA333 directly to one of analog pin on target board)) for further experimentation of circuit.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Get it. I think you need a new programmer, like ez-fet, you can apply a MSP430G2x LaunchPad kit. It has the SBW interface and the USB to UART channel.

Otherwise, you can buy a USB to UART tools.

  • Hi Eason,

Here is the response of our customer,

Thank you for referring new launch pad kit but since it is out of stock every where, i will have to resort to using your recommended USB to UART tools( but my question is that MSP430f2013 doesn't support UART interface)

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Sorry. It is my mistake. I think there are two solutions.

    1. Use software UART. It will has low requirement to CPU frequency, if you only send out the data with Timer.

    2. Use other tools like USB2ANY to convert I2C or SPI to USB

  • Hi Eason,

    According to our customer,

I searched for USB2ANY components and was able to find this "">www.adafruit.com/.../2264" it's called Adafruit FT232H Breakout since this is a cheaper option. My question is will this work with MSP430F2013? And one more question: I was successful in setting up SD16 and reading expressions using breakpoint but is it possible to read the values in the terminal using only the EZ430F2013 board? Since I am new at programming.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • 1.I mean this one:USB2ANY. However, you can't keep get data automatically. I mean you can use this to read some data by klick. If you want to keep reading out data without operation, it may not support it.

    2. Yes you can, if you use I2C master or SPI master, you just need to keep the ADC sampling and put the result into the SPI/I2C buffer.
