MSP430FR5994: Low frequency oscillators

Part Number: MSP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5994

On page 94 of the user's guide, it's stated that VLOCLK is "Internal very-low-power low-frequency oscillator with 10-kHz typical frequency". Is there an actual value for this frequency? Or is this oscillator inaccurate to the point of "10 kHz" being a rough guideline?

On a slightly related note, on that same page, it's stated that LFXTCLK is a "Low-frequency oscillator that can be used either with low-frequency 32768-Hz watch crystals, standard crystals, resonators, or external clock sources in the 50 kHz or below range. When in bypass mode, LFXTCLK can be driven with an external square wave signal.". Is this 32768 Hz crystal embedded within the MSP-EXP430FR5994 Development Board or is it an external component? It's used very frequency in the example codes but is sometimes described as it's own part.

  • The VLO specs are given in data sheet (SLASE54C) Table 5-7: frequency +/-50%. This is adequate for some things, but poor for others.

The Launchpad has a 32kHz crystal (Q1) connected to the LFXT pins. If you build your own board, you're responsible for supplying it.
