MSP430FR2512: Continuous Skin detection for 30 seconds Test case definition

Part Number: MSP430FR2512

Dear wonderful community members,

In my application, I am using the capacitive sensor to detect the skin contineously for sevral seconds to perform an action on skin.

I have two electrodes at distance say s and the electrodes are not round or rectangles due to mechanical constraints.

I am using Captivate Design center to generate the test case.

My question is should i use Self Mode or Mutual mode for my application ?

The two electrodes are placed side by side as you can see in the figure attached.

There will be a plastic casing over it.

Currently i am using it in Self mode, and i detect all the surfaces with diiferent count values (threshold values). Any suggestions or pointers in this regard are welcome and helpful.

Thanks & Regards

Tarun

  • Hi Tarun,

Currently i am using it in Self mode, and i detect all the surfaces with diiferent count values (threshold values).

Self mode is probably best for this application and the layout you have.  What target conversion count value are you using?  Is the device battery powered?

  • Thank you Dennis for your reply. Yes the device is powered by a button cell battery C2032. Do you mean count value threshold  for skin detection ? or precision of the count value ?

Also in Self mode i have two options either considering two electrodes as two sensors or two electrodes of same capacitor. could you suggest what works better i have tried both but cant see major difference.

Also using Mutual mode, i thought i would get rid of noise and perturbations. could you please elaborate why self mode is better than mutual in my case ?

    Thanks alot for your response

    Regards

    Tarun
