Capacitive touch sensing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FG4618

Hello.

My name is Ciprian, and I work with MSP430FG4618 for a project at school. The project is Capacitive touch sensing with FG2013 and I what cu run SCOPE.EXE but it doesn't work. The problem it seems to be the ports. What shell I do? Thanks

  • There is no FG2013. The experimenters board has an F2013 that has no built-in CapTouch support in the port chips (only the new low-cost G2x52 and G2x12 devices have).

The F2013 on the experimenters board uses a different method for sensing the touch pads on the board. It is described in teh appnote SLAA379.pdf (Capacitive single-touch sensor design guide)

Can you be a bit more detailed? 'doesn't work' can be everything up to an exploding PC when you start the program. What happens, and what doesn't happen?

What software is loaded onto the 2013? It does not necessarily work 'out-of-the-box'. What software is on teh FG4618? It needs to communicate with the 2013 in the proper way (the two firmwares must match the purpose), in order to give you the touch result on the LCD or serial.

Don't use a debugger to fetch any results from teh 2013. Sensing a capacitive touch is a very time-.critical task and any debugger intervention will make all efforts void, as a debugger is very intrusive regarding timing. Most debuggers are completely worthless as soon as any realtime events are involved.
