MSP430F5234: MSP430 Crystal

From the Family user guide:

The UCS module includes up to five clock sources:
• XT1CLK: Low-frequency or high-frequency oscillator that can be used either with low-frequency 32768-
Hz watch crystals, standard crystals, resonators, or external clock sources in the 4 MHz to 32 MHz
range. XT1CLK can be used as a clock reference into the FLL. Some devices only support the low-
frequency oscillator for XT1CLK. See the device-specific data sheet for supported functions.
• VLOCLK: Internal very low power, low-frequency oscillator with 10-kHz typical frequency
• REFOCLK: Internal trimmed low-frequency oscillator with 32768-Hz typical frequency, can be used as
a clock reference into the FLL
• DCOCLK: Internal digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) that can be stabilized by the FLL
• XT2CLK: Optional high-frequency oscillator that can be used with standard crystals, resonators, or
external clock sources in the 4 MHz to 32 MHz range. XT2CLK can be used as a clock reference into
the FLL

As you can see they don't all require a crystal. And, in fact, unless your program specifically sets it up, it won't use the crystal even if it happens to be present.

As to whether you *need* a crystal, that depends on your application.

We used a 32.768KHz crystal attached on pin#XIN(P5.4) nd XOUT(P5.5). XT1CLK should be sourced from a 32-KHz crystal.

Actually, we are not sure if any application will be used with this crystal. It looks only works on low-power mode, and needs to enable by setting some bits.

Can you help explain what application will use this crystal?

I also can attached our code and please help check if we've disabled this feature.

Look at the examples in Resource Explorer for your MCU. There should be several that show how to configure the various clocks.

can you guide me how to use resource explorer to find an expample and see how to configure the various clocks.

BTW, we are hardware designer and not sure our customer how to config this MCU. Currently, we can't measure any frequency from this 32-KHz crystal when MCU is on. Therefore, we just need to know how to enable this crystal and make sure this crystal works well.

sorry, the question from Byrant is for TIDA-050026-23881. The FW and HW is designed and provided by TI. So, Byrant doesn't know the detail for the fw in MSP.
