MSP430FR2355: queries related to MSP430FR2355 MCU

Part Number: MSP430FR2355
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, , MSP-GANG

Dear sir/madam,

In our design we have used MSP430FR2355TRHAR MCU. We have below queries:

Query No. 01 )  For Analog input channel, MCU 12-bit analog to digital converter (ADC) is used. For ADC, internal 2.5V voltage reference is used.

In case of this internal  2.5V voltage reference used,

-- pin no. 02 (Veref+) and pin no. 40 (Veref-) should be left open as unused pin or should connect any circuit at these pins? If yes, which circuit use?

-- pin no.  25 (VREF+) should be left open as unused pin or should connect any circuit at this pin. If yes, which circuit use?

Query No.02) How should be simplified Block diagram / Architecture of MCU 12-bit analog to digital converter (ADC).Please share the same.

Query No.03) How should be simplified Block diagram / Architecture of MCU 12-bit digital to analog converter (DAC) mode. Please share the same.

Query No.04) Whether the RST from the debugger is a CMOS type or an open drain type?  Please share the reference document which shows Debugger RST pin details.

Request, please share the reply/answers for above queries.

Thanks & Regards

  • Hi,

    1. Since you are not using the Veref+/- function, you can configure those pin as general purpose I/O function. And leave it as unused pin.

About the VREF+/- pins, you can find the capacitance reference on the VREF+/- pin in the datasheet table 5-10.

    2. 3. Are you asking about the how to use the ADC and DAC on the MCU? You can find the code examples about how to use the ADC and DAC in this link. https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=AG4nt5sfe0GKK5yVLaQpQw__IOGqZri__LATEST

    4. RST is not a open drain type, it can be configured pull up or pull down internally. Please find the related source on the UG chapter 1.7.

  • Hi Cash Hao san,
Thanks for reply. But still please clarify below:
    1. Related to point 4 we have referred MSP430FR2355 User Guide chapter 1.7. But this explanation is of MSP430FR2355 MCU "/RST" pin. We are not interested in Target board RST pin. But our requirement is to know the RST pin type (CMOS or Open drain) of MSP-FET debugger RST pin.
    2. Related to Point 2 , we would like to know the General block diagram of MSP430FR2355 MCU internal ADC block diagram. In MSP430FR2355 User Guide, detail block diagram is given. Kindly share the simple block diagram showing only necessary blocks with connection
    3. Related to Point 3 , we would like to know the General block diagram of MSP430FR2355 MCU internal DAC block diagram.  In MSP430FR2355 User Guide, detail block diagram is given.  Kindly share the simple block diagram showing only necessary blocks with connection
    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Cash Hao san,

I am waiting for your reply. Request please reply.

  • Hi,

    1. On the MSP-GANG user's guide. I found that the RST pin can output both VCC and GND in table 13. So, I would consider it as CMOS type.

    2. For a simple block diagram for ADC. You can take this picture as a reference. However, for detailed information I would suggest you follow the block diagram in UG.

    3. I think the figure 20-7 is the simple block diagram you need. Maybe the DMA part is not necessary in your application. But the others are all necessary.

     Best regards,

    Cash Hao
