MSP430F5522: Debug Interface Unlocking

Part Number: MSP430F5522
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hey,

I have a custom board where I have a MSPFET tool hooked up as a debugger. I've had this message appear while working on it.

It seems like from other posts MSP430s with USB ports should be unlockable at this point, but is that true? If so, how do you unlock it?

Thanks

  • Hi Alec,

Please reference our MSP Code Protection Features Application note.

You can reverse a JTAG lockout on the MSP430F5xx/6xx devices using BSL.

Specifically, follow the instructions in section 2.2.1 of that application note to reset the JTAG/SBW Signature registers to unlock the JTAG.

You could also use your MSP-FET with BSL-scripter and UART BSL, and perform a BSL mass erase easily by providing the wrong password. The Examples included with BSL-Scripter will show how to do that.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

  • If TI factory HID BSL is untouched, and device on board have hardware USB support than device can be forced to BSL mode by PUR button. It can be mass erased. If JTAG fuse is really locked than fuse  value can be modified to zero. TI HID factory BSL works with 4, 8, 12 and 24 MHz XT2.
