MSP430FR5969-SP: Max Sink Current on IO Pins

Hello!

I was curious what the max sink current on the IO pins was for my MSP430FR5969-SP. I read that because of the internal voltage reference, sourcing is not the best idea, but I couldn't find the sink current per pin information.

For instance, could I connect an I/O pin to an opto-coupler in the manner seen below:

The data sheet says to limit aggregate current but does specify a per pin limit. It does specify limits on output voltage at specific currents. Vss+0.60V at 6mA sink current for example.

Hey David,

Thanks for your response. I am still a little confused on what I highlighted below. Are these specs just for sourcing any output or is that information relevant for sinking too?

(if this is too blurry, this is the table on page 28 of the data sheet)

It shows both of course. Both source (current goes out or negative) and sink.

Just wanted to comment that there are also helpful graphs on the very next page (p.g.29) if you'd like to see the i vs v curves by temp.
