MSP-EXP430FR5994: Unable to verify proper connection

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hi,

I am a beginner using the TI MCUs and I am trying to program MSP-EXP430FR5994 to generate a 1MHz signal. My issue is with making a proper connection itself. When I connect the launchpad to the computer (using a micro-USB), I have the LED102 turned green constantly. I also see the ports MSP Application UART1 and MSP Debug Interface in my device manager. But when I try to run a simple blink example in CCS, I see that the resource manager is struggling to even detect the board. I get the error message "{"msg":"COM8: Could not open the device.","name":"COM8". "type":"error"}".  So when I manually enter the board name and try and run the blink example project I get the error Error initializing emulator: Tried to initialize USB FET number 3, but only found 1 USB FETs. A similar kind of error is seen when I connect the MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool to the launchpad and then run Debug but it is Error initializing emulator: Tried to initialize USB FET number 3, but only found 2 USB FETs this time.

I also tried to verify the connection by launching the MSP-EXP430FR5994 Out of the box Demo GUI but when I connect to a serial port and try to start the Live Temp Mode, it immediately freezes and then the serial port connection closes. I also noticed that the user guide mentions that the red LED blinks to indicate the start of a connection but I do not observe this in my launchpad.

Can someone please help me how to proceed further in the debug? Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Akhila

  • Hi Akhila,

It is normal when you see LED102 turns green when you connect launchpad with computer by micro-USB. And in computer management two ports will show up (UART and Debug Interface).

When the connection went wrong, please check .ccxml file firstly. It manage the connection of device, USB1 is default.

It can be found in folder (targetConfigs), or you can open the properties of the project, and select "General" to see the details.

    Best Regards

    Sal
