MSP430I2040: Writing to flash area that does not exist

Part Number: MSP430I2040
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hi MSP430 Experts,

What would you expect to happen if we tried to write flash into an area of flash that doesn’t exist on the part.  For example if we write our program code into 0x8000 on a 16kB part.

The boards currently have both 32K and 16K variants of MSP430 installed, but we’ve noticed that if we program the 32K code onto the 16k parts we’re not seeing any errors being generated.

Thanks!
