RF Access point was removed. Press OK to close application -- eZ430 - Chronos - 915

I attempted to install the eZ430 - Chronos - 915

Knowing that software is never current I went to the Chronos page and got the Control Center 1.2 software rather than loading the old software from the dated CD that came with the tool.  Oh yes, you need to know I am running windows XP.

Following the instructions I installed the RF Access Point into the USB, then let the drivers load.  The Access Point LED flashed and Windows said drivers loaded.

I can see the USB VCP in the System Hardware Manager, I set the settings as stated by TI on the Help tab of the Control Center 1.2 software.

When opening the Control Center software I get the message "RF Access point was removed. Press OK to close application ", and guess what, the application closes.

If I start Control Center 1.2 software with out the RF Access Point installed into the USB port the software loads but when installing the RF Access Point nothing happens.

I have attempted a number of the typical tricks to get TI products to work, and they all have failed.  I could go on and on with the tricks like deleting the driver and directing the driver install to the folder that was installed with the Control Center 1.2 software....I think a few hours of time is enough.

I have spend an hour reading about stuff like modifying dll files on E2E.

Please let me know how to fix this issue so that I may get on with things.

  • Well it has been < 12 hours and 36 viewers!  Guess this must be of interest, anyone know how to fix this problem?

  • Ok, now I removed the v1.2 software and the drivers, installed 1.1 with it's drivers.  Still the same problem as described above.  Would like to get on to this project so I hope a TI rep and respond soon. If there are factory damaged files, I would prefer to get files from TI to solve the problem.

    Thanks!

  • Can you tell a bit more about the system you use?

There might be software that interferes with the expected operation. (from your name, can it be that you're usign a MAC?)

One example for this software is sync software for smartphones which hijacks any COM port, trying to connect the smartphone that could possibly be attached to it.
On a MAC with parallels, OSX can grab the USB connection and interfere with the software.( I jsut read something like that in a different thread).

  • A picture is worth 1000 words, all info is in attachment.  This is exclusively an Instrumentation Computer, none of the software you stated is on this machine (PC), just one VCP is active as evidenced below.  The only other VCPs on this machine are from TI products, and I assume they have been tested to play nice with one and another.

I need to contact TI to get help on this matter and wish a TI rep. would handle this issue. There is a defect in the software or the hardware and specifics regarding this error message below need to be addressed.

  • Issue is 100% reproduced with Chronos 433 kit + Win XP SP3

    Steps:

    1. Attach eZ430-Chronos access point USB

    2. Wait for serial port driver is loaded.

    3. Verify/correct serial port settings.

    4. Run Chronos Control Center.

    Actual result:

"RF access point was removed. Press OK to close application" appears in a few seconds.

    Observations:

    1. Issue does not depend of the serial port number.

    2. It's possible to communicate with Access point from terminal like PuTTy

  • I too faced the same problem. When i checked the device manager, apart from this module one of the bluetooth serial port was assiagned the same port number. so after i changed the port number of my device, there was no more error.

  • I was having this happen when I tried to connect with my watch. The watch would reset and the program would close. Turns out my battery was too low for wireless connections. A new battery fixed the problem.
