MSP430F5526: Launch Pad programming error

Part Number: MSP430F5526
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529

Hi,

I tried to program the USB to UART bridge example. The instruction said to connect P4.4 and P4.5. these are only found on the jumper block and not on the debug pin headers. I removed the jumpers and connected to the TX and RX on the jumper block. After doing this, I now get Error configuring Debug Server: error-Failed to connect to MSP430F5529 device: Please unplug your hardware, then plug it back in and try again. This sounds like the USB communication device is messed up. Is there a way to recover to programmable again?

thank you.

  • Hi Qian,

I have check the instruction of USB to UART bridge and seems not mention connection P4.4 and P4.5.

It says 'The hardware configuration is a USB connection to the PC and the jumper block layout shown in Figure 1.'

Meanwhile, when you want to recover to programmable, you should at least connect RST, TST, GND, 5V, 3V3. You can disconnect others to exclude other pin effects. And then you can connected to IDE tools (such as CCS).

If it doesn't work, please refer to chapter 2.6 USB BSL Button in MSP430F5529 LaunchPad Development Kit User's Guide and get recovered.

By the way, it is not recommended MCU continually transmits data, which may occupy communication bus and then connection failed.

    Best Regards

    Sal
