Hi Team FRAM,

My customer needs a gamma-tolerant solution (autoclaving) & has the following questions..

We know the FRAM is safe and sound – what about the other pieces of the system?

Do you have information on the performance of this device’s CPU, peripherals, RAM, etc in a gamma environment.. and after exposure to gamma radiation?

Can gamma radiation exposure cause any lasting (or long term) effects to/on any parts of the device?

Also, do we have any parametric data (or any app notes, etc) to provide WRT the FRAMs (and other pieces) tolerance to Gamma Radiation?

We do have three radiation reports for the MSP430FR5969-SP.

But there is likely no more information regarding the MSP430FR5969-SP than contained in these three documents.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks.. But.. :^) I'm asking WRT the non-Space version of the device.. so how does that relate? Are the fab processes different for non-space & space variants? Or is it just test/qual differences or? What are the total differences between non-space & space variants of FR59?

Hi Merill,

Apologies, most commercial devices do not have much data related to radiation. Hence why my mind when to the -SP version of this device.

The level of gamma radiation required for sterilization could damage the rest of the device even if the FRAM is fine.

When we tested some custom IC's for gamma resistance, we found that the transistors and circuits did fine. The biggest issue was a shift in leakage current in the ESD diodes because they were so large.
