MSP430F5529: Compiler Issues

Hello,

I'm trying to run a simple code to blink LED's to familiarize myself with the MSP430 Launchpad but I get an error that states,

"../main.c", line 1: fatal error #1965: cannot open source file "msp430.h"

It seems there isn't a source file for the MSP430 in my directory for the IDE to compile.

You don't have the IDE set up correctly. What IDE are you using? Did you install MSP430Ware?

Yes I do, in the path C:\ti\msp

No I coded it myself from some videos that I watched.

Hello Erik,

Let's check if you have MSP430 device support installed in CCS. This is something you would of needed to add to your CCS installation. To check, create a new CCS project, via File -> New -> CCS Project. You should see the following screen and see MSP430 devices listed.

Oh I see, was I supposed to select the device and it pre-loads all the correct source files? Because I never checked that drop down menu and just used Generic Arm7 device instead for my current project.

That's correct. You would nee dto select your MSP430 device here when creating a new project.

So I tried the example and got these remarks:

remark #10371-D: (ULP 1.1) Detected no uses of low power mode state changing instructions
remark #10372-D: (ULP 4.1) Detected uninitialized Port A in this project. Recommend initializing all unused ports to eliminate wasted current consumption on unused pins.
remark #10372-D: (ULP 4.1) Detected uninitialized Port B in this project. Recommend initializing all unused ports to eliminate wasted current consumption on unused pins.
remark #10372-D: (ULP 4.1) Detected uninitialized Port C in this project. Recommend initializing all unused ports to eliminate wasted current consumption on unused pins.

These are just warnings for when you are trying to achieve ultra-low power. You can safely ignore them for your first Blinky. Note they are remarks, not even warnings.
