MSP430FR2355: MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad and BSL entry/usage

Part Number: MSP430FR2355
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hi All,

I am currently working with the MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad Development Kit and am experimenting with the bootloader. In our final application we will be using a line like ((void (*)())0x1000)() to enter the bootloader. I know that in my application this works - when I step in assembler I find that this call lands me on a line of jumps starting at 0x1000 and ending at 0x100f as I expect.

But when I use BLS Scripter to query the BSL version I get an error:

---------------------------------------------------------
BSL Scripter 3.4.0.1

PC software for BSL programming
2022-Nov-14 15:03:51
---------------------------------------------------------
Input file script is : ./BSLScript.txt

MODE FRxx UART 9600 COM39
TX_BSL_VERSION
        [ACK_ERROR_MESSAGE]Unknown ACK value!

There is no mention of BSL in SLAU680–May 2018 (the LaunchPad documentation).

I note that the Backchannel communications using the LaunchPad is quite slow. when I am using it for normal UART comms. Could this be causing a problem?

In slau655g (the BSL Scripter documentation), section 4 and then 5 seems to suggest that BSL scripter will work with communication bridge tools, including MSP-FET. My understanding is that the LaunchPad includes an MSP430-FET and I assumed that a 'communiation bridge tool' equates to the backchannel communications. Perhaps this assumption is incorrect?

All thoughts appreciated!
