MSP430F5438A: RTC application

Part Number: MSP430F5438A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529

Team,

My cutsomer I am looking for some guidance on doing a Real-Time Clock / RTC within a microcontroller. From what I can tell, the RTC peripheral is available in prime-power or standby mode when we provide an external crystal.  I assume a 32.768kHz crystal on the P7.0/1 pins. I plan on using the internal clock for our main microcontroller reference.

Do you have any additional guidance on this; Whitepapers or recommendations?  I have browsed the internet but am not finding details. Anything you can provide would be helpful.

Regards,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

Take a look at sections 21 and 22 of the User's Guide here, which go over RTCs specific to the MSP430F5428A. The datasheet here will have the pin configurations for the RTC specific to the device as well. Here are some code examples using the RTC; they are for the MSP430F5529, but they should be a good starting point and easily translated between devices.

    Best,
    Amruta
