FRAM has 33 General Purpose Input/Output ports?

I only count 26 gpio ports when I look at any given FRAM diagram, yet the stat sheet says they all have 33 gpio ports. Am I missing something here? I am pretty much a noob when it comes to electronics, but it still doesn't seem to match up. I'd really like to use this chip in my project but that will depend on whether it actually has 33 or 26 ports. Thanks in advance for your help in clarifying :)

  • When I look at the datasheet for the FRAM MSP430FR573x/MSP430FR572x Mixed Signal Controller (SLAS639), page 2, second paragraph, it does say "up to 33 I/O pins", but then in the following Table 1. Family Members, in the I/O column, you will see, depending on the Package Type, 17, 21, 30, or 32 I/O pins. I'm not sure where the "33" came from unless it's a typo (I've noticed several typos in the datasheet).

    I do know that the MSP34FR5739 (Package Type RHA) that comes on the new MSP-EXP430FR5739 Experimenter Board has 32 I/O pins:

    • P1 - 8 pins
    • P2 - 8 pins
    • P3 - 8 pins
    • P4 - 2 pins
    • PJ - 6 pins

    Obviously, if you are using some alternate functionality on some of the I/O pins, you will have fewer available I/O pins for GPIO use.

  • The stat sheet of MSP430FR57xx says they have 33 I/O pins. It was incorrect.

    The data-sheet SLAS639.pdf Table 1 on page 2 lists the family members. It shows there are 17, 21, 30, or 32 I/O pins. This is correct.

    You probably only counted P1, P2, P3, and P4 and get 26 I/O pins. There is also a PJ with 6 pins. Did you see that?

  • You are exactly correct! I didn't see the PJ with 6 pins. I am happy that it has 32 ports, all I need is 29. Thank You!
