MSP430FR5959: USB-FET error "Trouble Writing Memory Block. Could not erase device memory"

Part Number: MSP430FR5959
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hello,

I've been using the USB-FET for quite some time.

Now, when trying to download a program with the debugger, I'm getting the following error:

"Trouble Writing Memory Block at 0x4400 on Page 0 of Length 0xa00: Could not erase device memory".

I get the same problem with a second MSP-FET unit.

I can download the program with an Elprotronic Xstream-Iso FlashPro430 with no problems.

Any ideas?

Thank you

  • Hi Elwood,

Looking at similar posts it seems this could be a few things, sometimes it is a hardware issue, sometimes its a configuration issue.

Is the MSP-FET supplying power or is the target powered? Is this a custom PCB or a launchpad?

Are you using the same software to try and program when you use the MSP-FET and FlashPro430?

  • Thanks Brandon,

I have a number of custom PCBs (target powered).  It seems that some work, others are intermittent.  I found an old launchpad (external powered) that I forgot I had.  It seems to work consistently.

Software and hardware is the same for all units. All JTAG connections seem to be good. Hopefully I can narrow down the problem eventually.

  • Elwood,

You could try a few more things using a shorter cable length when programming. Something could be marginal here on the signal quality.

Does the problem still occur on your "troublesome" boards when you try to flash one of our example projects such as the blink project?

    Best Regards,
