MSP430FR5969: RTC seems to lose its date/time in some circumstance

Part Number: MSP430FR5969

Are there known conditions under which the RTC on this chip can lose its date/time and just be reset to some random values, of course other than a low battery or removing power?

We have a design based on the cold chain demo board and software.

We modified the default demo code to circularly log. A few units after some days the log is downloaded and at some point the date/time is observed reset to some random date/time.

The logging is based on 5 minute RTC alarm interrupt and wraps about every 6 days. Everything is running normally, temperature monitoring etc, logging, just the date/time becomes junk but continues.

It has been seen on a few boards with known good battery >= 3.0v.  Many have run for months just fine however.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.
