MSP430F5502: Not Enumerated

Hi Team,

I'm developing USB device using MSP430F5502. I use MSP430F5502 with ADUM4160(analog device).

The problem is that MSP430F5502 is not enumerate with ADUM4160. (I'm checking on both IC). I had no problem when I checked the usb connection only with the MSP430.

I think the problem is the enumerating timing of adum4160. When I debug my code, the USB interrupt always goes into suspend state.

The question is below:

About enumerate timing of MSP430F5502, is it okay if the d+ line of the msp430 is always pull-up?Is it okay to use 3.3V pull-up at D+ line? Attaching my schematic image below:

Hi Jejomar,

I'm not sure why it doesn't work. A quick look at the adum4160 datasheet shows that it is just an isolator with some buffers.

Can the customer use a logic analyzer to capture the usb signals in the working and non-working case? Then they can compare the two scenarios.

Hi Evan,

Many thanks for looking into this. In the meantime, we proceeded with various modifications to our code. Below is the code image.

The problem was I set the USBPWRCTL register after interrupt enabled. I added a code (red point in attached image) to handle when the MCU was turned on and the USB was connected. However, this problem has not been solved completely. Sometimes, my board is not enumerated. Can you help us with the enumeration process and timing of the MSP430F5502?

Hi Evan,

The code I posted in my previous response worked fine without ADUM4160. But the code does not work when used with ADUM4160.

After removing the 10~15 lines in code, my board enumerated with ADUM4160.

I wonder if the ADUM alters the timing of the USB such that when the device boots the USB (from the ADUM) isn't quite ready. Does the ADUM have a boot up time? Can you add a delay when the device boots before you run the code in red above?

Apologies for the delay. When I add a delay in front of red code, my device was not enumerated six out of ten times.

Hi Jejomar,

I'm trying to think of situations that might prevent the USB enumeration but there isn't anything obvious.

To proceed we need to have logic analyzer captures of both the working and non-working scenarios.
