MSP430FR2033: Lock-up after brown-out, PC at 0xfffa

Part Number: MSP430FR2033
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6879, MSP-FET

Hi,

I'm working on a product that contains a main board (using MSP430FR6879) and a daughter-board (using MSP430FR2033). The two boards communicate over SPI.

When doing some testing I have discovered that if I force a brown-out condition by briefly removing the power from the system, I occasionally find that the daughter board (using MSP430FR2033) fails to restart. The main board is always OK.

I have tried attaching the debugger to the MSP430FR2033 when it is in this state (I'm using MSP-FET with Code Composer) and when this has happened the debugger always tells me that the PC is at 0xfffa, which is clearly incorrect. If I look at the contents of memory I can see that it all looks like what I would expect, and if I look at some of the chip registers (like the clock system and WDT) I can see that they all have the values the datasheet says they should have on reset. It looks like the chip has reset, but for some reason the CPU has not started running.

I have checked the errata for this part and cannot see anything in there that is relevant. Does anyone know of any reason why the CPU could fail to restart after a brown-out? What would cause the debugger to show the PC as being at 0xfffa?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
