MSP430F2131: brown out reset

Part Number: MSP430F2131

Hi team,

The Brown Out Reset occurs when the voltage falls below V_HYS (B_IT-), which is at most 1.92 V [1, page 20].

If we want to operate the microcontroller at 12 MHz, a minimum of 2.7 V is required [1, page 14].
What happens if the supply voltage drops below 2.7 V, but not below 1.92 V, so that the Brown Out Reset is not triggered and the supply voltage is insufficient?

BR,
Stefan

  • Hi Stafan,

I think there will be a voltage margin, so it can be exactly 2.7V.

It is not recommended under the condition you described. And it hard to say the specific behavior of the device. I asuume the deivce clock frequency might not be maintained.

I suugest you or your customer do some test and check what will happen. Reiterated, we recommend customer use the MCU under recommended ranges.

    B.R.

    Sal
