Hi, my name is Aaron, engineer of the R+D+i Department of the Rother Industries & Technology company.

I see the schematics and datasheet of MSP-EXP430F5529LP where I can see the capacitors that this need. I had compare this with documents of MSP430F5529 microcontroller.

My doubt is that if I use only the MSP430F5529 microcontroller on a prototyping board, the microcontroller capacitors to power (without using the ADC, just use to power) the microcontroller are C14, C18, C19 and C30 or is required more capacitors.

The schematic I believe is required is attached. Is it correct?

Hi Aaron,

Are you using the Launchpad? Or are you designing a custom PCB?

If you are using a Launchpad, you do not need to add external capacitors as these are built into the Launchpad. See page 54 of the Launchpad User Guide to view the hardware schematic.

If you are designing a custom PCB, you can find the required capacitors and values in the MSP430F5529 Datasheet, specifically in section 8.3. Please ensure that your design follows the conditions set there.

Hi Dylan,

As I indicated, I want to use only MSP430F5529 on a custom PCB and my question is if more capacitors are required in the schematic that I attached in the previous message. ADC capacitors are not necessary if I do not use this right?

My apologies I see now.

If you are not using any of the analog on the device (ADC, VREF), then no you do do not need capacitors on the AVCC pins. However, to be clear, you should still connect the AVCC and DVCC together at 3.3V.

Are you using this device for a USB application? if so, you should take a look at page 15 of the USB Design Starter Guide. If you are not using this for a USB application, you do not need to worry about the additional hardware mentioned in this guide.

But I don't need ADC, it is needed AVCC and DVCC to be connected to 3.3V or I can leave them in not connected?

Hi Aaron,

It is needed to connect both AVCC and DVCC to 3.3V.

Even if you are not using the ADC.
