EVM430-FR6043: HID Bridge Firmware Flashing

Hello,

I am designing using EVM430_FR6043 but would like to move on to the custom board using MSP430-FR6043. Since I will be using the Ultrasonic Sensing Design Center GUI for debugging purposes, I plan to integrate M430F5528 (HID bridge) as well.

On the forum, I read about HID Bridge Communication Firmware (MSP430F5528) and downloaded the file that was provided on the post (/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/166/TI_5F00_MSP_5F00_HIDBRIDGE_5F00_eZFET_5F00_USS_2D00_EVM.zip). Does this contain the most recently updated version of the firmware for HID Bridge (The current version is: TI_MSP_HIDBRIDGE__1_00_03_00__BANSHEE-USS-EVM.txt.)? The instruction says to use MSPFlasher and execute Program_AIO.bat to automatically flash both the EZFET file and HID_Bridge file to the respective MCU. Is it possible to flash the HID_Bridge file through a USB_serial connection using UniFlash or MSP430 USB Developer Package? Or is it necessary to have EZFET integrated into the custom board? What if I use MSP-FET instead of EZFET?

I studied slau654a - MSP Flasher.pdf on the zip package.

MSP Flasher requires a hardware interface to communicate with MSP target devices. The following TI flash emulation tools (FETs) are supported:
• MSP-FET
• MSP-FET430UIF
• eZ-FET and eZ-FET lite
• eZ430 (including LaunchPad kits)

I think both MSP-FET and EZFET are adoptable for MSP Flasher

Hello Xiaodong,

So the file contained in /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/166/TI_5F00_MSP_5F00_HIDBRIDGE_5F00_eZFET_5F00_USS_2D00_EVM.zip is compatible with MSP_FET and I do not have to use EZFET? What if I want to use a USB-serial connection instead of MSP_FET? Would it still work? Is the file inside the zip file up-to-date?

Would it still work even if I don't use MSP Flasher but use UniFlash/CCS/MSP430 USB Developer Package instead?

But you need develop your own solution.

Just reconfirming, if I would like to utilize UniFlash/CCS/MSP430 USB Developer instead of MSP Flasher, I won't be able to use TI_MSP_HIDBRIDGE__1_00_03_00__BANSHEE-USS-EVM.txt from /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/166/TI_5F00_MSP_5F00_HIDBRIDGE_5F00_eZFET_5F00_USS_2D00_EVM.zip and I would have to program the HID bridge application myself. Is this correct?

UniFlash and MSP Flasher are PC sides software (based on MSP Debug Stack)

MSP Flasher is a user-friendly shell-based interface that provides easy access to MSP devices through JTAG or Spy-Bi-Wire (SBW) by porting the most common functions of the MSP Debug Stack to the command line.

Uniflash is the GUI based on MSP Debug Stack as well.

as the previous discussion, you need The following TI flash emulation tools (FETs) are supported with MSP Flasher
• MSP-FET
• MSP-FET430UIF
• eZ-FET and eZ-FET lite
• eZ430 (including LaunchPad kits)

if you don't adopt the above emulation tools, you need develop your own solution based on MSP Debug Stack.

Hello Xiaodong,

I've been looking through several forums, and it seems like MSP devices come with BSL that lets me update firmware on HID devices via USB using MSP430 USB Developer Package (Python_Firmware_UpgraderGUI). I tried to test my device using this, and when I connected the device to a PC via USB, I got the error: USB device is not recognized. I tried to update the driver using ti_msp430driver_setup_1.0.1.1-windows.zip, but this did not resolve the problem. How can I resolve the issue?
