MSP430FR6007: Ultrasonic water meter cycle disorder

Part Number: MSP430FR6007

Question 1: A customer made an ultrasonic water meter product based on MSP430FR6007, but an error occurred at the application site, resulting in abnormal flow calculation. Customers reported that if the adjustment is done in winter, there will be metering problems in summer. If the adjustment is done well in winter, problems will occur in summer, which is greatly affected by temperature changes. Customers have been using software to compensate. The customer currently wants to fundamentally solve this problem in order to promote the FR6007 ultrasonic water meter solution in large quantities. The customer describes the problem as follows:
When MSP430FR6007 is used in water meters, when using the official algorithm library, the wrong period will occur at the same flow rate (transducer is 1Mhz, sampling is 8Mhz). For example, when the corresponding time difference at a certain flow rate is 0.2us, there is Sometimes the time difference will appear to be 1.2us, or 2.2us, or a full period error like this. Are there any relevant suggestions on this issue?

  • Hi,

First, when the transducer is 1MHz, we recommend to use 3.6M as the ADC sampling frequency.

Second, check when the dTOF shows a cycle slip issue, what is the absTOF performance at that time. Most of the dTOF cycle slip issue is caused by the absTOF occurs a cycle slip issue. And use a proper threshold could help to solve the absTOF cycle slip.

It would be helpful if the customer can provide their threshold settings and ADC captures at different temperatures.

    Best regards,

    Cash Hao
