power consumption for the CC430

Dear Community,

Sorry about using an old post, but I wasn't sure if a new thread was necessary. [ed - split to new thread in this forum.]

I, similarly, would like to measure the power consumption for the CC430 on the EM430F6137RF900 board. I wanted to measure the power consumption over the span of about a couple minutes and was wondering what kind of sensing element would be able to measure the power of a system with such a small amount used when idle, but a much greater amount when used when utilizing the RF capabilities. Ideally, I'd want to plot the measurement over time. The general way that I did it was to put a 10 ohm resister between the ground connection and the battery and measure the voltage (V=IR) with an o-scope. However, as somewhat expected, it was difficult to discern the lower voltages (currents) through the noise (although, I can seen when an RF transmission occurs). The plot would be just to get the gist of what is consuming the power, whereas I'd really want to know how fast the battery would drain by eventually coming up with average power consumption.

Thank you so much for your great help,

Saran
