MSP-GANG: Cannot add images on internal memory and LCD fault

Part Number: MSP-GANG

Hi!

We purchased an MSP-GANG Programmer from distributor Mouser in 25-JUL-23, in this link:

br.mouser.com/.../MSP-GANG

After a few days of use, the LCD display stopped working.

LCD Fault (nothing shown)

And I can't put images in internal memory, following error message:
Downloading Script Buffer...Verifying Script PSA ...Failed
ERROR 352: Image CRC error. Program terminated.

I ran the self-test, it passed all tests except three, where there were the following errors:

205: Access to LCD RAM (0xAA)      0x00AA   (0x00AA  - 0x00AA)  Result:  0x60     ... >> ERROR <<
206: Access to LCD RAM (0x99)      0x0099   (0x0099  - 0x0099)  Result:  0x60     ... >> ERROR <<
207: Image Flash Access (get ID)   0x0002   (0x0001  - 0x0004)  Result:  0x00     ... >> ERROR <<

Has anyone faced these problems?

Is there any way to fix these problems remotely, or do I need to request a replacement?

I contacted Elprotronic support and Texas Instruments support, they suggested me to try E2E design support forum.

  • Hi Samuel,

It sounds a bit like there might be some corruption of the firmware going on here. Can you try to force a firmware update? In the MSP-GANG GUI you can do this with Tools -> Gang API Firmware Update

Have you been connecting to just a single board at a time? Is it a custom board and is the MSP-GANG providing power when you program?

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

  • Hi Brandon, thanks for reply.

I've tried force a firmware update a couple times, and has no effect in both of problems (LCD and add images, by the way LCD never show anything).

The problem with add imagens occurs without any target board connected on the MSP-GANG, in "interactive mode". Note that the problem does not occur when programming the target MCU, but rather when creating the image in the programmer's internal memory, as I need to use it in "stand-alone" mode without a PC, or in "From Imagem Mem." mode in a our custumer's PC. The curious fact is, if I import the code file in "Open Code File ->" button and then press "GO (F9)" Button in "Interactive" mode, the device is programmed successful.

    Best regards.

  • Hi Samuel,

After looking through some old posts it seems to me that both the LCD error you are seeing and the failure uploading application images are most often hardware issues. Id recommend you contact Mouser directly and request a return.

The other potential cause here would be a firmware bug. If you want to be very thorough you could try downgrading your firmware to the previous version, but I don't suspect in this case it will change the outcome given the nature of the LCD failure.

    Best Regards,
    Brandon Fisher

  • Hi Brandon,

I tried downgrading the firmware to a previous version, and the problem persists.
I am in contact with Mouser, I will check with them how to proceed.

    Best regards.
